In Pier, shot on the island of Itaparica, Bahia, Brazil, filmmaker and choreographer Daniel Gwirtzman continues his playful exploration of the natural world, emerging from the Atlantic Ocean’s Bay of All Saints as a contemporary dancing creature. The perfect symbiosis of elements conspired to create Pier, a clear day during the heavy rainy season with good light at high tide. The high tide is only this full for a few days each month. Typically the water laps at the base of the pier, close to the Bay's floor. As much as one plans, luck always holds the winning hand. When the rain stopped, Daniel stripped down and ran.
