IMPROVISATIONS

Improvisations, filmed and directed by visual artist Stefanos Milkidis, is an excerpt from a triptych of video dance performances focusing on the intersection between body and space. The films represent an exploration of dancing by using the body as an object for improvisational tasks. In each of these videos, Stefanos asked Daniel Gwirtzman to perform only once in front of the camera in a spontaneous choreography of movements that would be his raw, gestural response to the music. This work is interested in seeing how performance defines one’s perception of a space through deconstructing reality through the employment of slow motion and multiple layers. The emphasis is on the immediate experience of image and sound, with each supporting the other.
